As we grow our portfolio and further our vision of delivering properties that are greener, healthier and smarter, we are seeking an Accounting Specialist II to expand our accounting team’s capabilities. This is a position that will allow you to learn the fundamentals of two specific functions of the company – construction and payroll – with the ability to scale your career potential over time. You will also be in a unique position to learn more about the monthly financial close process by working with the Property Accounting Manager as you get up to speed on the construction and payroll aspects first.

This opportunity will be a great option for someone with a year or two of public accounting experience looking to make the move to private industry or for someone who has been working in bookkeeping or focusing mainly on A/P and A/R, but who is looking for more. The ideal candidate has a solid accounting foundation to be able to approach the basics with confidence, but an appetite to learn more.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Process weekly payroll; facilitate implementation and operation of payroll, interfacing with payroll service provider as required
  • Complete monthly reimbursable payroll allocation reporting, invoicing, and payment coordination
  • Assist Construction Project Coordinator with processing construction department accounts payable, eventually assuming full accountability for Construction A/P
  • Assist Construction Project Coordinator with data entry for project accounting, including allocation and reimbursement of labor costs, and with monthly project reconciliation against company accounting system
  • Assist Property Accounting Manager with general accounting tasks, such as bank reconciliations, posting journal entries to the general ledger, preparing account reconciliation and/or supporting schedules to the financials, as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned based upon company need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of directly related accounting experience; prior high volume accounts payable experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent professional experience preferred; Associate degree required
  • Intermediate understanding of basic accounting practices and principles
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multitasking environment while meeting multiple deadlines with accuracy and quality
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with proven ability to build and maintain quality and professional relationships with tenants, vendors, and team members.
  • Ability to work with sensitive files and maintain confidentiality; must pass criminal background check.
  • Computer literate, proficient with common business software/applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite), and ability to adapt to new technology and mentor team in doing so.
